NOTE: blogger has schmutzed with the layout so photo size can no longer be edited beyond "too small" or "falling out of frame" as far as I can figure - sorry they are so darn small.  I guess you can just go into slideshow mode and see them probably at all kinds of sizes but somewhat bigger.  Also I'm noticing a bug I noticed years ago that they evidently have not fixed, which is that sometimes photos go missing ... and but possibly only when viewed in Firefox.  Grr... hm.

There is no excuse for my not having learned to build websites by now.   Except: yawn.

Also sorry if you don't think "schmutz" should be verbed. Alternate word submissions welcomed.

apostrophe

I’m in the midst of some unforeseen character growth, or priority shuffling, that I don’t quite fathom yet.  A shedding of some kind of skin. I feel like something furry followed me home and I don’t know what to feed it or what language it speaks.

I am split in two, looking at my own things, puzzled.  interesting that she keeps this here, I think.  this might be a nice place for a vacation.

There is a moment I always love when working on a film set. Everything is warmly lit. All of the crew members have exited the scene and linger, waiting for the actors to arrive. My apartment feels exactly like this: it’s simply stunning how it evokes reality. I am about to walk in and say something.  It will sound spontaneous, but someone will have labored over its composition.

Both audience and talent, I await my own action.

don't quit your day jobs

my week, on fast forward:

Sunday: six mile hike in Griffith Park, at night with a head lamp .. kind of felt like lying in bed thinking about taking a hike, except I had company.

Monday and Tuesday: ten hours in the dentist's chair, with my dippy student shooting novocaine in the wrong nerve, out the other side of my gums and down my throat, etc.

Wednesday: lunch at the Alcove, spent reading all the notes in the chess table drawers (all new since I read them last .. they must periodically chuck them)

highlights:

“I like alcove and I like yogurt.
Sometimes I heal and sometimes I hurt.
Life is cruel and life is sweet.
If only my food were here so I could eat.
Days go by and people move on.
I only hope that ..
Oh wait. My food is here now.”

“Even though you cheated on me w/ur sister’s best friend, I forgive you.”

“Lunch was delicious. Off to Target! –Giselle.” (deep one. Go Giselle.)

“last night sucked! Wow!”

“Who would have thought I’d become a high school teacher? I was always such a fuck-up”

“I have nothing interesting to say.” (Well, thanks for clarifying.)

“I shot myself @ work & had to go home.”

“I just texted the wrong boy the wrong message oops!”

“what is the life span of a jellyfish? I wonder if they are monogamous like penguins – do they even mate?”

“It is better to want what you can’t have than have what you don’t want.” (hear hear.)

“Dear Jamie, tonight I spill my blood, until the last drop I think of you. The whole (sic) you left I cannot fill. I cannot go on. Drew” (hope he’s kidding.)

more:

Today: bought a car. ditched the Hawaiian seat covers pretty quick, for the record.

`c vsswcaA`

On Tuesday I left my laptop open; Phoenix was milling about on my desk and when I returned, she had done a Google search for the above term (quotation marks hers).

Nothing came of it, although Google did have this suggestion:

Did you mean: `c nyswcaa`

I really want to know what my girl is up to - do we need to have a talk about boys? Drinking? So I clicked on it. She seems to have developed an interest in the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association. I hope this is a passing fancy - New York is far away - but I do have to say I'm proud of her ambition. It's just all happening way too fast. Last week she went into heat. This week she lost a tooth ... it's rough being a cat mom. You're putting baby teeth under her pillow, and your progeny is ready to flee the nest.

(The Tooth Fairy brought us some cat treats, by the way.)

I have lots of art shows to talk about, but for now I'd rather play scrabble.

So here are some pictures I've collected, which otherwise don't have anything to do with one another.

spoon chandelier.

a nightstand made of picture frames, or facsimile picture frames .. I think it's from anthropologie.

a cozy reading room that desperately needs cats but has a fantastic chair (i have a chair thing. this one is probably my favorite so far, but more chairs here and here)

a room more modern than I'd generally go for, but I love the seafoam couch, and the green shadow in the windows

Audrey Hepburn shopping with her pet deer ..

brilliant artwork, source more or less unknown .. *

{i got it here, attributed to Belarusian artist Mikolka-Parovoz; a French blogger credits him with the work as well, citing this page (in Latvian - no help there) as a source; but I can't find a damn thing about this cat in English, other than in blogs citing the blog where I found it as a source. And to confuse things further, apparently Mikolka-Parovoz is a movie, which makes me wonder if the information is erroneous in the first place. shame. a bummer of a dead end.}

Alright, well I'm going to go eat dinner, but I thought I should add that while I was typing up this post, Phoenix changed the title to `c vsswcaA`98 .. I'm sure that clarifies things.

If not, this certainly will.

(don't be scared. it's just a Calvin & Hobbes cartoon.)

Yay! It's raining.

hey, new color. is it good? is it too white? does it look like it's been through the wash?
I thought it looked good with the spoon chandelier ..

* late breaking news!! (5/8/08) .. anonymous tip, which I'm very happy to have received: the artwork above is called Machine (III) and is by Vladimir Tsesler and (the late) Sergey Voichenko
